Mary Lennox, a sullen and spoiled orphan, is sent to Yorkshire to live with her embittered uncle Archibald and his invalid son Colin at gloomy Misselthwaite Manor. No place for children, it is full of dark corners and strange night-time noises. Discovering a hidden, neglected garden, Mary plants the seeds of new life for all those drawn into her secret refuge.
